Welcome to the Greenwood County Library's Children Programs! We strive to provide a warm, engaging environment for young readers in Greenwood County! We offer in person storytimes and other activites to children from birth - 5th grade. Check out the link to our children's programs below for current programs, including an online calendar of Children's programs at all the Greenwood County Library System's branches. 

Computer Lab: The Children's Room has a small computer lab that can be used by children or caregivers with children. Sign up for a computer at the Children's Room Desk. Adults who do not have any children with them may use the computer lab located on the second floor directly across from the stairs. Please note that due to COVID restrictions not all computers are available for use.

Our Collections:

Board Books: Books created for babies with thick cardboard pages easy to turn, bright colors, and simple words. 

Juvenile Easy Reader: Beginning chapter books for early Elementary readers who have started reading on their own. Located on the short shelves by the Children's Computer Lab.

Juv Easy Fiction: Picture books for younger readers. 

Juvenile Fiction: Chapter books for Elementary readers. Located in the tall shelves between the Easy Fiction and Non Fiction sections.

Juvenile Graphics: Graphic novels for Elementary readers. Located in the back of the Children's Room by the iSpy tank.

Juvenile Non Fiction: Non Fiction books for Elementary readers. This collection is located in the far right of the Children's Room near the study rooms.

Juvenile Reference: Encyclopedias and other refernce books for children. Reference materials can be used only in the Library and are not available for checkout.

Juvenile Biography: Biographies and autobiographies for Elementary readers. 

Parenting Collection: This collection contains books on parenting. More parenting books can be found in the Adult NonFiction collection as well in the 646s.

Grandparent's Collection: These are books focusing on grandparents, including grandparents raising their grandchildren.

DDRC: The Developmental Disorders Resource Center at the Greenwood County Library aims to provide support to the special needs community through much-needed materials on autism, the autism spectrum, and other developmental disorders. Topics include teaching social skills, behavioral therapy, conflict resolution, and community awareness and interaction. You can find this collection in the back of the Children's room by the emergengy exit door.

   Children's Programs

Click on the link above to find descriptions of children's programs for ages birth- 5th Grade. We offer storytimes, arts and crafts, STEAM events, and more. 

We also have an online monthly calendar of all Children's Program at the three library branches.

     

   Early Literacy Resources

Early reading intervention sets up your child for success in school and life. The Greenwood County Library offers two early literacy programs: 1000 Books before Kindergarten and the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. Find out more on how these programs work and how to register your child.

We also have a Parenting Collection and Grandparents Collection of books in the Children's Room that adults can check out with their Library Card.

     

   DDRC (Developmental Disorders Resource Center)

The Developmental Disorders Resource Center aims to provide support to the special needs community through materials on autism, the autism spectrum, and other developmental disorders. Topics include teaching social skills, behavioral therapy, conflict resolution, and community awareness and interaction.

Books, CDs, DVDs, and educational toys and games available for loan and in-library use.

   Digital Library for Kids!

The Greenwood County Library System offers several different ways to access digital materials from home. You can access these material 24/7 through your home computer or mobile device. The library offers a wide range of digital library materials, including eBooks, eAudiobooks, music, and more!

The SC State Library also provides access to Tumblebooks, a digital reading service designed for kids.- follow along to read alongs and find graphic novels, ebooks, and more!
