Opportunities for Children (and Adults) to experience nature and the outdoors in fun, informative ways – from the Fluvanna Master Gardeners and Rivanna Master Naturalists


Let’s talk plants - what they need to grow; also learn about nature’s SUPERFOOD
Tuesday, July 6 at 9:30 a.m. outside the Fluvanna Library
Join us at the Fluvanna County Library (outside) for an interactive seed planting workshop. We will build a 3D plant and talk about what plants need. Also, we will learn about nature’s superfoods – microgreens, and then plant some to take home, nurture, and eat. (Ages 5+)

Fairy Gardens Galore
Tuesday, July 13 at 9:30 a.m. outside the Fluvanna Library

Join us at the Fluvanna County Library (outside) to build a Fairy Garden. We will also learn about some different kinds of plants like succulents and air plants. (Ages 5+)

Trees: Why we need them
Tuesday, July 20 at 9:30 a.m. outside the Fluvanna Library

Join us at the Fluvanna County Library (outside) as we learn about trees, how to identify them and their importance. We will walk the tree trail and play a nature scavenger hunt Bingo game for prizes. Since we will be walking the tree trail, bring a water bottle and wear comfortable walking shoes – no flip flops please. Parents/Guardians should accompany children on the tree hike. (All ages)

Birds, Butterflies and Bees
Wednesday, July 28 at 9:30 a.m. at Pleasant Grove parking lot behind the main house

Join us at the Pleasant Grove Park parking lot behind the main house to learn about birds, bees, butterflies, and other pollinators. Visit the Butterfly Garden and make native bee boxes, explore the Pleasant Grove Nature Room, and find out which bird you resemble.  We will do some walking so bring a water bottle and wear comfortable walking shoes – no flip flops please. Parents/Guardians need to accompany children since we will be walking to various areas of Pleasant Grove Park. (Ages 5+)
