Collection:

  • Currently offering small collections of streaming video and read-alongs.

Availability:

  • Each eBook or eAudio checks out to one user at a time

  • Checkout period: choose either 7 or 14 days

  • Titles may be renewed if there are no holds

  • Maximum number of items that may be checked out at one time: 12

  • Maximum number of holds that may be placed at one time: 10

  • Titles can be returned early to allow for more checkouts

Freading

You MUST obtain an Adobe ID BEFORE creating/checking out Freading titles.

Login to account with valid Culpeper County Library card.

Collection:

  • Thousands of fiction and non-fiction eBooks for adults, teens and children with new titles being added

Availability:

  • Unlimited simultaneous use; all titles are always available

  • Freading allows patrons to borrow eBooks based on a weekly book loan allotment system

  • Each patron receives a weekly number of book loans

    • The number of book loans roll over for 4 weeks, for a maximum of 12 book loans per month.  At the end of the fourth week, unused loans are cleaned out of the account and a new four week cycle begins

    • A week is Monday to Sunday from Midnight, EST

  • eBooks checkout for a period of two weeks and are renewable

Compatibility:

Computer & Laptop users will find it necessary to have Adobe Digital Editions installed onto their computer or laptop  and an Adobe ID to authorize it in order to download Freading eBooks.

 

Mobile Device users can use the Freading App or download via transfer. An Adobe ID is required for both methods.

  • Direct Download:  Freading has apps available for the following mobile devices (check your device's app store to download):

  • Apple iPhone/iPad (app)

  • Android Phones/Tablets (app)

  • Kindle Fire (or Amazon Fire, Fire), but not other Kindle devices, and with a few extra steps - directions in FAQs

  • eReader via Transfer:  the following devices are not compatible with the Freading App and require being transfered from a PC to a reader using Adobe Digital Editions software and Adobe ID.

EBSCO eBooks 

You will need to create an Ebsco account or sign in to an existing account in order to download items - you will be prompted for this when you go to download an item. An Adobe ID is required for downloading items.

Login remotely with your Library barcode.

Collection:

Over 30,000 nonfiction and fiction eBooks for adults, teens and children.

Availability:

  • Each eBook can be used or checked out to one user at a time.

  • Checkout period:  Choose between 1 and 7 days.

  • Titles may be returned early.

Mobile Apps & Device Compatibilty:

Computer & Laptop users can read eBooks online in their internet browser. No additional software needed.

  • eBooks can also be downloaded for offline use.  If you are using your computer or laptop, you will need to download Adobe Digital Editions.  

Mobile Device users The EBSCO eBooks app was retired in March 2018 and will no longer work.

  • EBSCO eBooks are compatible with the Bluefire Reader, or any other Adobe Digital Editions supported app. Users will need to create an Adobe ID to register the app on their mobile device.
