The La Virgen de Guadalupe. La Morena Moderna is an integral symbol of  heritage whose dress changes with each rendition and scope expands with the constancy of migration. As one of the most popular symbols of our time, the “Queen of the Americas” transcends borders: historic, territorial, cultural, political and more recently, gender.  In believers and non-believers alike, the brown-skinned Madonna evokes response: emotions, questions, controversy, reverence, actions and timeless art.  Through my own travels near and far from home, I have gained a wider view of her significance and perpetual evolution as she transforms within the society that she appears.
