Full-Time Library Director Vacancy
The Fleming County Public Library located in Flemingsburg, Kentucky is seeking applications for Library Director. The library serves a community of about 15,000 and employs 3 full-time and 8 part-time staff. Presently the library has established programming for birth through adulthood, technology access for the public, bookmobile services, indoor and outdoor space for meetings and programs including a new pavilion. The Library Director is responsible for the administration of the library system, extensive supervisory duties of personnel, hiring staff, facilities, services, purchases, and programs to serve the diverse community of Fleming County, as well as, community involvement, school interaction, supporting the Chamber of Commerce and participation in the Interagency Council. Long-range planning, budget creation plus analysis, and extensive knowledge of library operations as well as perspective into future needs of the community are necessary for the continued success of the library. The Director position requires the ability to work under minimal supervision with a large degree of independent judgement and action. The Library Director needs to be readily available to answer calls from the security system. This is a contractual full-time position who attends monthly meetings to inform the Fleming County Library Board of Trustees of current and developing library methods and trends.
A Master's Degree in Library/Information Science (Professional I) from an ALA accredited institution or a Master’s Degree with at least 15 graduate hours in Library Science (Professional II) is preferred or candidate must have the ability to obtain a Professional I or II certification from Kentucky Department of Libraries and Archives within 5 years. An ideal candidate would possess at least three to five years of public library experience.
Essential skills include: a broad knowledge of the principles and practices of library science, managerial expertise including scheduling staff, financial planning, and analytical capabilities, ability to communicate with diverse populations, an aptitude for resolving conflicts .with patrons as well as staff and patrons, initiative to pursue grants and develop library services, capability to manage facilities to best serve the community and skills in developing and maintaining a professional relationship with the Board, staff members and community. The library director also files reports to the state, develops Board communications, and oversees the monthly and yearly financial budget.
