FAQs
How can I find out what the library owns? Our online catalog is available from any Internet-accessible computer. Just point your web browser to http:www.earlibrary.org Our catalog allows you to search an individual library or the combined holdings of all eight of our libraries, Barco, Camden, Corolla, Elizabeth City, Hatteras, Kill Devil Hills, Manteo, and Moyock.
How do I get a library card? Library Cards are issued to all who present a satisfactory form of identification with current address. Children under the age of 14 must have a parent or guardian's signature on the card application. Library cards from each library are honored at any of the EARL libraries.
How long may I borrow materials? Most materials check out for three weeks. You may renew materials either in person or over the telephone for an additional three weeks, as long as no one else has requested them. Some very high demand books and DVD's may have a shorter loan period.
Where can I return my library materials? You can return library materials to any of the libraries in the Region, no matter which library owns them. For your convenience, there are book drops located in front of each of the libraries. There are additional book drops in Currituck and Dare counties. In Currituck County, book drops are at Moyock Shopping Plaza, Currituck County Historic Courthouse, Grandy Shopping Center, Shawboro, at superior Water Systems. In Dare County, book drops are in Southern Shores at the Town Hall, Nags Head at the Town Hall, Rodanthe between Hotline and the EMS Station, and Buxton at the Fessenden Center.
What about overdue charges? Fines are 10¢ per day. There is a five-day grace period before fines start accruing, but after five days, the fine reverts to the original due date. If you have fines, call the Library to renew items and stop fines from accruing. Consider signing up for email notification, and receive a courtesy email 2 days before any materials are due.
What if I can't find what I'm looking for? Library staff is available to assist you in person or over the phone. The library offers reference assistance. No matter what you are looking for, we're here to help!
What if the library doesn't have what I am looking for? We will often purchase new books of general interest that a patron requests. We also offer an Inter-Library Loan service, where we request materials to be sent from public and academic libraries throughout the state and country.
What if the item I want is checked out? We will be happy to reserve it for you. If the item is held by any of the other EARL libraries, we can get it sent to the library most convenient to you via our courier service, then notify you when it arrives.
