Guidelines for being a Teen Advisor at the Culpeper County Library
(MUST be in 6th-12th grade)
:
1. Attend monthly Teen Advisor Meetings or Training Sessions on fourth Fridays at 3:30PM. Advisors should not miss more than four meetings per year for any reason. Advisors must contact Lori Rice if they will miss a meeting. If a crisis comes up, they should contact her after the meeting.
2. Attend at least four teen events per year, in addition to the monthly Advisor Meeting or Training Session.
3. Arrive on time for meetings and events.
4. Participate in all events and meetings.
5. Check e-mail (or have a parent check e-mail) or Discord for announcements and reminders.
6. Exhibit sensitivity to the feelings of others and show respect and kindness in interpersonal relations.
7. Make helping others, including peers, through community service to be a top priority.
What the Library Provides for Teen Advisors:
1. A chance to be involved in activities that help support the growth and practice of various skills:
Having productive role in the community.
Learn how to make solid choices and plan for the future.
Accepting and taking personal responsibility.
Helping to better develop social skills, such as empathy and sensitivity in a safe and inclusive setting.
Helping to better develop public speaking skills.
Develope a sense of accomplishment from helping others, and performing a service by doing so.
Gaining increased self-esteem from positive reinforcement, successes, and mastering new skills.
2. Volunteer hours are given for attendance at all Teen Advisor meetings, training sessions, and committee meetings, and for events you help to run.
3. Being a member of a Teen Advisory Board looks great on job and college applications, and Library staff are happy to write references.
