Subject to the policies and procedures of the College and those of its Library, the Louisiana College Library is available, when open, for courteous, responsible use by (i) all members of the Louisiana College community, (ii) the residents of the greater Alexandria/Pineville area, and (iii) the faculty, staff, and students of other colleges and universities in the State of Louisiana, as well as (iv) the public generally. An adult must accompany all children under high school age (grades 9-12), at all times.
Three public services are directly available to authorized users of the Library: 1.) User Access Services, providing circulation, interlibrary services, and library reserves; 2.) User Resources, through the Reference Desk, and 3.) Library Instruction, through classroom instruction, individual instruction, and tutorials.
Each individual present in the Library should have in her/his possession, at all times, some form of current personal identification. For each member of the college community, that identification is her/his current, valid Louisiana College identification card. For Guest Users, such identification should be her/his current, valid driver’s license and any current, valid Louisiana Guest User card, LALINC card, or a photo identification card from some other institution, business, or the like issued to her/him. Any individual in the Library may be asked at any time to present and deliver said personal identification to any member of the faculty or staff (including, without limitation, the director, each faculty librarian, each member of the library support staff, and each student library assistant on duty) and may be referred to the College Security Office if he/she fails promptly to do so.
Alcohol, illegal drugs, firearms, knives, tobacco products (smoke and smokeless), food, and other items dangerous to persons or damaging to property are not allowed in the Library.
Use of cell phones is not permitted in public areas of the library. A room on the main floor of the library is labeled “Phone” for use of cell phones. For individuals without a cell phone a landline telephone is available in that same room for local calls. Library faculty and staff do not receive calls for library users. Library faculty and staff and other college personnel are permitted to carry telephones in the library as required by their duties.
