The summer reading program is a fun way to promote education and literacy. Programs and events are sponsored by the Hendersonville Library Friends and made possible through generous donations from businesses in our local community.
This years themes are all about the night. There is something for everyone. Participants of all ages, from toddler to adult, are encouraged to read books to earn prizes, and participate in special events at the library. Registration will begin on May 29th and ends on July 12th.
The real fun begins on Saturday June 2nd, 12:30 - 3:00 with a "Catch a Shooting Star Carnival". There will be fun and games for everyone as well as snow cones and cotton candy.
Children ages 1 to 12 can register in the Children's Department. You will receive a reading log to complete and turn it in for prizes. You don't have to be registered to attend the weekly fun themed programs scheduled through the end of July. Click the Dream Big Read picture to see the calendar of events.
Young adults will "Own the Night" with mystery, mayhem and monsters. If you are between the age of 12 and 18, you can register in the Youth Room. Read and enter to win in the "100 minutes to win it" weekly drawings. There will be other opportunities to participate in games, crafts and contests. Click on the Own the Night picture to go to the calendar of events.
We have prizes for adults who wish to participate in the Summer Reading program as well. All you have to do is fill out a entry slip with your name and phone number and the title of a recent book you read. Turn it in at the Reference desk to be entered into the weekly drawings for prizes. You will automatically be entered for the grand prize of a Kindle Touch that will be awarded on July 28th.
