He is distracted from his troubles by the suspicious death of a congressman who, just before being killed in a hit-and-run, had brought Stone evidence of a damning political conspiracy. Stone works closely with an attractive reporter to expose the conspirators and, unsurprisingly, engages in a romantic dalliance with her.
