SCOPE AND CONTENT: This collection contains many miscellaneous news articles pertaining to the Apple Blossom Festival (1957-1959) and Dr. Garland Quarles. Also included within the collection is information regarding Mary F. Boxley and her work and influence in Winchester, VA. The collection also contains a handbook of Winchester Public Schools, a photo album containing multiple photos of the Apple Blossom Festival and news articles, as well as a scrapbook including personal town/school programs/events and local news articles.

BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL: Mary F. Boxley lived from 1905 until 1999 and was a prominent member of the Winchester Community. She was employed as an elementary teacher and head of the home economics department by the Handley School Board of Winchester, VA. Boxley was also chairman of costumes for the Apple Blossom Festival for 30 years, designing, constructing and handling some 1500 costumes each year.
