Reading programs

1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is a year-round library program that encourages all families and caregivers to read at least 1,000 books with their young children before they enter kindergarten.

Twice a year, we have a graduation ceremony at Bowman Library to acknowledge the graduates of the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten.

Come in to Bowman Library or Handley Library to sign up.

Our Valley Reads Summer Reading Program encourages all ages, from preschoolers to adults, to read during summer break and runs from May 20 to Aug. 12, 2017.

We're hosting over 300 free programs for all ages this summer! Click here for printable schedule showing programs at all three branches--Bowman, Clarke County, and Handley, part of Handley Regional Library system.

Children earn a free book for every 6 hours spent reading and can enter a raffle for additional prizes. The Summer Reading Program runs from late May through early August each year.

Our Winter Reading Program encourages children to read and be read to during the month of February. We will have special library events during the month, and children can earn a prize. Check back in January for details on the 2018 Winter Reading Program!
