Biographical/Historical: A Presbyterian congregation was present in Winchester as early as 1765, and the “Old Stone Church” where they worshipped was built ca. 1788. In 1834, that building was sold and the congregation reunited with the Kent Street Church, whose members had splintered during 1825. The reunion did not last and a group of 44 members withdrew in 1838. By 1841, they had purchased the present site on Loudoun Street and begun construction of a new church. Once again the Kent Street and Loudoun Street congregations merged in 1900, and they became known as the First Presbyterian Church.
