SCOPE AND CONTENT: This collection contains items relating to the life and work of  Prenith L. (Bob) Bartley, and consists primarily of records of his community service with Optimist International and as a 32nd degree Mason in Winchester, VA. He is a member of Winchester Hiram Lodge #21 A.M. & F.M. and served as Master. There are also photographs, which are included in the Photograph Collection in the Archives.

BIOGRAPHICAL/HISTORICAL: Prenith L. “Bob’ Bartley was born in Kentucky on October 18, 1931, and moved with his family to Winchester, VA in 1937. He owned and operated Bartley Orthopedic and Shoe Repair Shops in Winchester and the tri-state area for sixty years. Bartley owned and operated Hess Shoe Store and Shoe Service in Berryville as well as the Triangle Diner, Grim’s Shoe Repair, and Bartley Real Estate.
He was also involved in community service during most of his adult life as a member of Optimist International, and Winchester Hiram Lodge #21 A.M. & F.M. He is also a Shriner and served as President of the Winchester Shrine Club twice and the Blue Ridge Shrine Club once, and a member of the Knights of the York Cross of Honor.
