To obtain a library card:
Any resident of Tennessee can apply for a library card. Photo identification and proof of current mailing address are required for age 16 and over. Under age 16 requires a parent or guardian to be present when library card is issued. You may check out only two items on your first visit. There is a 2.00 charge for a lost library card.
Using your library card online:
Click on MY ACCOUNT and log in by typing your library barcode number and PIN number. (When you first get a library card, your PIN is the last 4 digits of your phone number or your library barcode number. We suggest you change your PIN so that no one else can access your account.)
Checkout Limits:
5 books and/or audios per person 3 videos or DVDs per family 2 books per subject
Checkout Periods:
All items checkout for 2 weeks
Renewals:
One renewal if item is not on reserve. Items may be renewed by phone or online. If someone is waiting for that item you may not be able to renew it.
Reserves:
You may reserve newest titles or any item currently checked out by phone or online. Any reserved item not picked up within 3 business days after notification will be returned to circulation.
Fines and Fees:
10 cents per days the library is open for books, audios, and periodicals. 1.00 per day for videos, DVDs and computer software. Maximum fine 5.00 per item.
Lost/Damaged Materials:
Replacement cost of title or comparable title when lost or damaged title is unavailable.
Internet Use:
An Internet Use Policy is displayed on each Internet Access Computer. In accordance with CIPA, Child’s Internet Protection Act, a parent or guardian must sit with children under the age of 12 when using the Internet. Children 12-16 can use the Internet with written parental permission on file at the library. All computer users must present a valid library card in good standing. An exception is made for non-residents checking email.
Interlibrary Loan:
There is no charge for this service. Patrons are limited to 4 requests per month.
Genealogy and Local History:
The Gallatin Public Library supplies limited resources for genealogical searches. You may use The Sumner County Archives, a premier resource and research center for Sumner County history. The Archives is located at 365 N. Belvedere Drive, Gallatin, TN 37066. It is open Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Phone number: (615) 452-0037.
Memorials and Honorariums:
A form is available at the circulation desk for the library staff to purchase a book in memory of or in honor of someone. The completed form allows the staff to send proper acknowledgements to the family and to the donor. Make checks payable to the Friends of the Gallatin Public Library. Most hardcover books can be purchased for $25.00.
Donated Books and Other Materials:
All donations are checked to see if they can be used in the library. Any materials that are not in acceptable condition, we have multiple copies of and/or those too old for our collection are placed in the Friends of the Library Book Sale Room. The Friends pass along all book sale funds to the library for the purchase of needed materials. Receipt for all donations will be supplied upon request.
