David Johnson: President

Profile:
David served on the Fairfield Public Library Board of Trustees from 1990 to 2003 (during the planning and construction of the new library building) and was a founding Trustee of the Fairfield Library Foundation Board. He is happy to have rejoined the Library Board in 2013 and currently serves as President. He traces his love of libraries to the new public library built in his South Dakota hometown when he was a child. A resident of Fairfield for over 30 years, David is a Certified Public Accountant and is employed at Zimmerman Capital Group, where he serves as Chief Financial Officer as well as President of the William Zimmerman Foundation. David enjoys biking and walking the Fairfield area trails system, wally-ball, yoga and, of course, reading.
James Pearson: Vice-President

Profile:
Jim grew up in Des Moines, and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1971 with a BA in History. He attended law school at the University of Arkansas School of Law and graduated in 1974. He has been licensed to practice law in the State of Arkansas since 1974, and in the State of Iowa since 1982. He moved to Fairfield in 1983, and is a member of the Iowa State Bar Association, the Jefferson County Bar, and is a past Chair of the Iowa-Nebraska Chapter of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. He practices primarily in the area of immigration and naturalization law. Outside interests include travel, photography, hiking, and golf.
Lori Vaughan: Treasurer

Profile:
Lori was born and raised in the Fairfield community. She is a Senior Staff Accountant at TD&T Financial Group, P.C. and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting. Lori is involved in many community activities. She currently serves as the Treasurer for Fairfield Area Softball Association and is on the Board of Directors for the Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce as well as the Fairfield Public Library. Lori is a past member of the Greater Fairfield Area Habitat for Humanity and the Fairfield Trojan Athletic Boosters. She is a member of First Baptist Church and serves as a Youth Leader and Sunday school teacher. Lori and her husband, Scott, have two daughters, Kiersten and Morgan and one son, Spencer. Lori enjoys spending time with her family and reading when time allows.
Mike Adams: Secretary

Profile:
Mike has a background in teaching and has taught in St Louis County and Fairfield. He also has held computer IT jobs with Telegroup, Block Trading, and is the current IT Director at Human Factors International. In his spare time, he can be found riding a recumbent bicycle or reading books. Serving the library allows Michael to share his love of books and computer knowledge. He has been a Fairfield resident for over 27 years.
Karen Rubey

Profile:
Karen is serving her first term on the library board. She has been involved in community activities for a long time, and served as an at-large member of Fairfield City Council for seven years. She has been a member of the Fairfield Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, President of the Fairfield Women’s Club, co-founder and Vice-President and Secretary of the local Genealogy Society, President and Secretary of the Iowa State Genealogy Society. She is current Secretary of the Friends of Lake Darling State Park. Karen and her husband, Charles, are retired and have two children and five grandchildren. She has been interested in the Library since she was a member of the Library Club in High School. She really enjoys serving on the board.
Margaret Kelly

Profile:
Margaret grew up in northeast Nebraska and graduated from Wayne State College with a BAE in History and Political Science. She attended graduate school at Northeast Missouri State University and the University of Iowa. Margaret has lived in Fairfield since 1971. She served as a teacher and administrator in the Fairfield Community Schools for 28 years. She was a member of the Boards of Directors of The Greater Jefferson County Foundation, The Education Foundation of Fairfield Public Schools and currently serves on the Board of Directors of Great Prairie Area Education Agency. She has been a library patron in every community of residence and is grateful for the opportunity to serve the Fairfield Public Library.
Carol Fischer

Profile:
Originally from Michigan, Carol relocated to Fairfield (via Chicago and Charlotte, NC) in 2002 to join Cambridge Investment Research. Ms. Fischer is First Vice President, Advisor Services and strategically focuses upon Service and Technology initiatives to enhance Client retention. A voracious reader since elementary school, Carol appreciates the opportunity to serve the institution responsible for her appreciation of books.
Michael Porter

Profile:
Michael and his wife Diane own the website Birdwatching Dot Com, a source of information and products related to the sport of Birding. If you search for “bird watching” in Google, you will find that website near the top of the first page. He has written comparative reviews of birding optics for national magazines for over 15 years. He and his wife Diane are also the creators of Bird Brain, a software product birders use to track their bird sightings.
Gary Henry

Profile:
Gary has been retired for the past four years after 32 years in the education field. He is now an Executive Search Associate for Ray and Associates and an Assessment Administrator for the National Assessment for Educational Progress. His educational work experience includes Special Education Teacher for emotionally disturbed students, Special Education Consultant for GPAEA, Associate Principal and Principal for the Fairfield Middle School. Gary was the Fairfield Middle School Principal for five years and the Associate Principal for thirteen years prior to becoming the principal. He served as a Special Education Consultant for Great Prairie AEA for twelve years and served several school districts. Gary taught/counseled at a residential treatment center for emotionally disturbed children.
