The Crawford County Library System came into being on July 1, 1999 after the dissolution of the Ozark Regional Library System which had partnered Crawford County with Washington County since the early 1960s.  The system consists of five libraries.  The Van Buren Library has generously provided office space for the system offices.   The other branches of the system are located in Alma, Cedarville, Mountainburg and Mulberry.  The system has grown and expanded since 1999.  For example, the system had 59,000 volumes in 1999.  The number of volumes has grown to 143,351 now in 2010.  If we do not have the book a patron needs, we can order it through our Interlibrary Loan Program. Since 1999, each library has moved or will be moving into a new space.  We now offer many new services which include genealogy databases, downloadable audio-books and e-books, a foreign language database, Universal Class database plus other databases used for research that are provided by the Arkansas State Library.  Each branch has a story time for preschoolers and a summer story time program for all children.  We provide a summer Art Camp by partnering with the Center for Arts in Education at each branch.  Also a Summer Science Program is provided by the system.  All this has taken place due to the support of the people of Crawford County through a 1.4 mill property tax.  We are fortunate that our area has grown in population and property during this last ten year period, which in turn has allowed the library system to grow as well.  Thank you Crawford County for allowing us to serve you!!
