Book Club

Afternoon Book Club (Meets every 4-6 weeks at 1:00pm)
Next Meeting is Tuesday, May 1 at 1:00pm
We will be discussing "Empty Mansions" by Bill Dedman. Empty Mansions is a rich mystery of wealth and loss, connecting the Gilded Age opulence of the nineteenth century with a twenty-first-century battle over a $300 million inheritance. At its heart is a reclusive heiress named Huguette Clark, a woman so secretive that, at the time of her death at age 104, no new photograph of her had been seen in decades. Though she owned palatial homes in California, New York, and Connecticut, why had she lived for twenty years in a simple hospital room, despite being in excellent health? Why were her valuables being sold off? Was she in control of her fortune, or was she controlled by those managing her money? Please speak with a librarian for information on obtaining a copy of the book

Evening Book Club (Meets every other month at 7:00pm)
Next Meeting is Monday, April 9 at 7:00pm in the Ayers Room-Lower Level
We will be discussing "Dry" by Augusten Burroughs. You may not know it, but you've met Augusten Burroughs. You've seen him on the street, at restaurants, on the subway: a twenty-something guy, nice suit, works in advertising.  Ordinary. But when the ordinary person had two drinks, Augusten had twelve; when the ordinary person went home at midnight, Augusten never went home at all. When Augusten lands in rehab, he is forced to examine himself and realizes when his thirty days are up, he will have to return to his Manhattan life and live it sober. What follows is a memoir that's as moving as it is funny, as heartbreaking as it is real. Please speak with a librarian for information on obtaining a copy of the book.
