The Tale-Waggers are bringing their 4 legged friends to the library and they're eager to hear a good story.

Sign your children up for a chance to read their favorite book(s) to some of the cuddliest dogs around.

Reading sessions are limited. Registration is required.

Experts have found that children who read at a level below their peers are often intimidated by reading aloud in a classroom setting. Thus reading becomes a chore. Children find that reading to an animal is less intimidating and less stressful than reading aloud in front of peers, teachers or parents.

The Tale-Waggers have worked for more than 9 years to improve the literacy skills of the children in our community through the use of certified therapy dogs as literacy mentors.

Any child who wants to have fun reading with the dogs is accepted, as well as those who are struggling with reading skills and self-confidence. After all, it's fun to go to the library; it's fun to read for pleasure; and it's especially great to share this fun with a furry friend.

If our children are to succeed tomorrow, they must learn to read today. In tomorrow's world, our ability to get a job and support ourselves and our families will depend on how well we read. The sad truth is, however, that many children are not learning to read and their families do not know how to help them. This fall Chippewa River District Library is hosting PRIME TIME FAMILY READING TIME. PRIME TIME is designed to help families help their children improve their reading skills by involving the whole family in making reading fun. PRIME TIME shows families how reading together and openly discussing books can help children want to read and become better readers as a result. PRIME TIME doesn't just help to improve reading skills; it also has been proven to positively impact student achievement by enhancing critical thinking and reasoning skills. PRIME TIME is a unique program that includes storytelling, reading, and discussion for parents and children aged 6 to 10. The programs are free and include a small dinner, door prizes and a gift book each week. PRIME TIME will be held every Wednesday, beginning October 12 through November 16, 2016, starting at 6 p.m, at Veterans Memorial Library in Mt. Pleasant. Space is limited and registration is required. You can register by calling the CRDL Help Desk at Veterans Memorial Library (989.773.3242 ext 11) and tell them you would like to register for Prime Time. If you would like to register on your own, please enter a parent's name only, and you will be contacted by a library staff member.
