Orphans get adopted, crooked little trees get decorated, and everyone receives the best possible gifts in this second anthology of 15 Christmas favorites. Some originally appeared in such obscure magazines as Sunshine, and all are "Christ-centered rather than Santa-centered." Memorable characters include a cowboy hiding from his past in "A Few Bars in the Key of G" by Clifton Carlisle Osborne, and a World War II navy captain who delivers gifts to all, even the rowdiest of his crew, in "A Christmas Ballad for the Captain" by William J. Lederer. Some stories touch on the loneliness of the holidays, as in "Jolly Miss Enderby" by Paul Gallico, whereas helping strangers is the message in "A Certain Small Shepherd" by Rebecca Caudill and "Rebecca's Only Way" by Annie Hamilton Donnell. "The Tiny Foot" is based on a choice by Dr. Frederic Loomis, who during a delivery decides not to terminate the life of a deformed baby; years later the correctness of his action is tearfully touching. --Jennifer Henderson
