When productivity expert and author Bailey (The Productivity Project, 2016) noticed his focus was slipping, he studied and tested ways to reclaim his productivity. In Hyperfocus, he explores the research behind how people knuckle down and offers focus-management techniques. Starting with a guide on how to use the book, he then delves into tips designed to help readers deal with distraction. Bailey revisits his productivity ritual, the Rule of Three, which encourages readers to set the focus for the day by selecting three things to accomplish. Then comes hyperfocus, the means to manage concentration in order to think more clearly and to work more deliberately. Bailey's method also encourages downtime, or scatterfocus, allowing the mind to purposefully wander and get creative. The book contains helpful exercises and lists, such as strategies for focusing deeper and ways to eliminate distraction. The state of our attention determines the state of our lives, notes Bailey, which is why he empowers people to manage their attention. This book will appeal to a wide audience, from those in business to self-help seekers and busy parents.--Jennifer Adams Copyright 2018 Booklist
