PreS-Gr 2?Ludwig Bemelman's classic tale of the little French girl, Madeline, and her appendectomy scar (S&S, 1939) has been translated into Spanish (Viking, 1993) and is now available as a read-along. A female narrator clearly reads the story in crisp Spanish. One side of the tape has page-turn signals. The original illustrations are retained in the book, and the translation is good. It contains some rhyming lines, although it is impossible to reproduce the original strict rhyme and meter found in the English version. Still, the story is a delightful and well-treated here.?Teresa Bateman, Brigadoon Elementary School, Federal Way, WA (c) Copyright 2010.
