Library Card Use Guidelines:

  • New library patrons will need to present proof of current address and photo ID (such as a driver`s license) to get a library card.
  • Present your card each time you want to check out or renew items from the library or use a library computer.
  • Your card may be used at any branch location in the Barry-Lawrence Regional Library System.
  • Items may be returned at any branch location in the Barry-Lawrence Regional Library System.
  • This is YOUR library card--Library staff reserves the right to ask for identification.
  • As a library customer, YOU are responsible for returning items in good condition by the due date.
  • Children must be at least 6 years of age to obtain a library card. Youth ages 6-17 must have a parent or guardian's signature. Parent or guardian must already have a card and be physically present at the time of application. The parent or guardian is responsible for lost or damaged items or items that have not been returned.
  • Report the loss of your library card or change of address immediately. A $2.00 fee is charged for library card replacement.

Loan Period:

  • All items (Books, audiobooks, periodicals, videos, & DVDs) check out for two weeks.

Renewals:

  • Books, audiobooks, and periodicals may be renewed for 2 additional loan periods of two weeks, provided there are no pending requests.
  • Videos & DVDs may NOT be renewed.
  • To renew an item, you may access your personal account online or call the library.

Overdues:

  • YOUR cooperation in returning items in a timely manner saves taxpayer dollars and makes library materials available to ALL residents of
Barry and Lawrence counties. The library reserves the right to limit or revoke your library card use if items are consistently overdue.
  • Overdue fines are 10 cents per day per item with a maximum of $5.00 per item. Any item(s) more than 14 days past due will incur replacement and processing fees. IF all items are returned in good condition, you will not be responsible for replacement fees, but overdue fees will still apply.
  • 7 days past due: The library will send you an overdue notice by mail, email, text, or phone. Use of your library card at any branch library in the Barry-Lawrence Regional Library System will be blocked until your overdue items are returned and all fees paid.
  • 14 days past due: The library will send you a second overdue notice by mail. Use of your library card at any branch library in the Barry-Lawrence Regional Library System will be blocked until your overdue items are returned and all fees paid.
  • 60 Days past due: ($7.50 - $24.99) If your account balance is $7.50 - $24.99, the library will forward your account to Unique Management Services (UMS), a library materials recovery agency. A non-negotiable service charge of $5.00 will be added to your account. UMS will contact you to request the return of the overdue materials and payment of all outstanding charges.
  • 60 days past due: ($25.00 +) If your account balance equals $25 or more, the library will forward your account to UMS. A non-negotiable service charge of $10.00 will be added to your account. UMS will contact you to request the return of the overdue materials and payment of all outstanding charges.
  • Over the next 120 days: UMS will make multiple attempts by phone or letters to contact you. If you do not return the overdue items and complete or establish a payment plan, your account may proceed to the next stage.
  • 180 days past due: UMS will report your overdue account (accounts more than $25.00) to a credit reporting agency which may affect your credit rating for up to seven years.
