Computer Classes

The following classes will be offered in Auditorium B at the Greenwood County Library. Class size is limited, so please register in advance at the Reference Desk or by calling 941 - 4655. All classes are free and run about 1 hour and 45 minutes.





Basics I
Wednesday - September 3, 3 - 4:45 PM


This class is a introductory course to the computer. Learn the parts of the computer, how to turn it on and off, and the basics of the mouse and desktop.

The Mouse
Thursday - September 4,
3 - 4:45 PM

Get comfortable with your mouse! Learn how to hold and move the mouse properly. Practice basics mouse skills such as clicking, double clicking, drag and drop, highlighting text, and more.

Basics II
Wednesday - September 10,
3 - 4:45 PM

Learn more about the keyboard and short cuts; how to resize windows; and, all about the "Start" menu. Basic mouse and computer skills are required. Students will be required to be competent with the mouse. Beginners who struggle with the mouse should take the Mouse course before taking Basics II.

Internet
Tuesday - September 16, 10 - 11:45 AM

What is the Internet? Learn more about it along with different browsers, search engines, and website reliability. Basic mouse and computer skills are required. Students will be required to be competent with the mouse. Beginners are encouraged to complete Basics I, The Mouse, and Basics II before taking this class.

Email*
Thursday - September 18, 10 - 11:45 AM

Email is key in getting along in today's world. Learn how to read and create emails, how to reply to and delete emails, and other basic email skills. Basic mouse and computer skills are required. Students will be required to be competent with the mouse. Beginners are encouraged to complete Basics I, The Mouse, and Basics II before taking this class.

Word I
Not Offered in September

Covers the basics of this word processing program. Participants learn to how to start, highlight, change fonts, copy & paste, and a few keyboard shortcuts. Basic mouse and computer skills are required. Students will be required to be competent with the mouse. Beginners are encouraged to complete Basics I, The Mouse, and Basics II before taking this class.

Word II
Not Offered in September

Learn to do more in Word. Students will be required to be competent with the mouse. Beginners are encouraged to complete Basics I, The Mouse, and Basics II before taking this class.

eReader Thursday*
Thursday - September 25, By Appointment

eBook Thursday is offered every other month as a dedicated time for one-on-one assistance with all types of eReaders. Learn how to use your eReader or learn how to check out books, audiobooks, and other media from our digital library. Please contact a Reference Librarian to schedule an appointment. Appointments are scheduled in hour long blocks.

*Please bring your eReader's charger and all necessary equipment with you to your appointment.

Tech Tuesday
Tuesday - September 23, By Appointment


Tech Tuesday is offered as a dedicated time for one-on-one assistance with basic computer/technology questions. Please contact a Reference Librarian to schedule an appointment. Appointments are scheduled in hour long blocks.



Other Classes

The library strives to make as many classes available each month as possible, but some classes cannot be offered every month due to time constraints and class demand. These classes are offered on a rotating schedule. Keep an eye out for these classes in the next few months.

Excel
Tuesday - September 30, 10 - 11:45 AM

Learn how to create a spreadsheet to manage finances, keep records, or more. In this class, students will learn how to insert data, format spreadsheets, and create simple formals. Students will be required to be competent with the mouse. Beginners are encouraged to complete Basics I, The Mouse, and Basics II before taking this class.


PowerPoint
Not Offered in September

Learn how to create basic presentations for work, school, or fun. In this class, students will learn how to create their own presentations and add animations, sounds, and transitions to their presentation. Students will be required to be competent with the mouse. Beginners are encouraged to complete Basics I, The Mouse, and Basics II before taking this class.


Files and Folders
Not Offered in September

Tired of not being able to find your documents, photos, and other files? In this class, students will learn how to manage and organize their files and folders. Students will learn how to create new folders, move files from one folder to another, and other tips and tricks to make your life in the Information Age less stressful. Students will need to be competent with the mouse, especially with skills such as double clicking and drag and drop. Beginners are encouraged to complete Basics I, The Mouse, and Basics II before taking this class.
